First trip

We headed to Houston this past weekend for our first "trip". I was probably looking forward to it the most since I hadn't been anywhere in over four months! We packed everything but the kitchen sink and headed out. It was a successful trip. She was only fussy when we weren't moving, which lucky for us was only a brief stint on Hwy 59. We had a good weekend visiting Micah's family and introducing Charlotte to her cousins and some friends.

We were finally ready to pick up Beaux's ashes this weekend. It was a bittersweet moment. Healing yet terrifying all at the same time. This was very important for me to do since I was unable to be with him in the hospital in Houston at the time of his death. It  was something that as a mother I needed to do for my son. What a strange experience. We are still not sure what we are going to do with ashes...I am just waiting for some wonderful idea to hit me over the head. Until then, I like that he is here with us in some physical way.

The latest weigh  in last week put our little chunk at 9lbs5oz! She has now moved from 3% to 10% in the growth scales. She is really becoming more animated everyday. She has discovered ceiling fans and is mesmerized!

Here are some pics from last weekend:

Ella a.k.a "Tinker Bell" meeting Charlotte for the first time -she loved her!
Introducing Merritt and Charlotte
"TeaTime" poolside with Ella and Micah....I see lots of these in our future!

"Girl time" - Ella couldn't understand why I wouldn't just leave them alone to play

Two Months

Callie, Tommy, Erin, Charlotte  - Tommy was born three weeks after the twins.   We originally had the same due date!

Callie and I partaking in some adult beverages while rocking our babies. This is acceptable right?
The only pic of the two babies together and Tommy whacks Charlotte in the face. Crying shortly ensued from both parties.

She was two months yesterday and I feel like a lot has changed. She is getting stronger and more alert everyday. She is sleeping longer periods of time throughout the night (6 hours has been our max!). She is tolerating more activity and spending longer times awake during the day. Still loves tummy time and eating and still hates her car seat and diaper changes! Some things might never change....

Another thing that I have found that I really like, but Charlotte is still deciding...introducing the "Moby Wrap"

I heart the "Moby Wrap". I can hold her and have my hands free to do other stuff. Again, she likes it...sometimes!

Trial and Error

It has been trial and error since we have gotten home. Trial and error for finding what works with the baby, what works for us and how our lives function best in our "new normal". This past week was a huge wake up call for me. I had to hit rock bottom before I "woke up" but I did "wake up". I think I had my mind made up early on that I was going to keep myself as busy as possible so I didn't have to think about losing Beaux. I threw myself back into work, socializing with friends, going to meetings and other obligations. I found out the hard way that was probably not the healthiest approach. I wore myself down and when the bottom fell out, it fell out bad. I took a whole day to just rest, relax and spend time with Charlotte and a not so welcomed guest, my sadness. I didn't answer phone calls, emails, texts - just concentrated on what Charlotte and I needed. I have figured out the key is to find the delicate balance between getting back to my life and doing things that I enjoy but to also make time to grieve, rest and rejuvenate.

Trial and error has been the name of the game with the little one too. We have found her top 3 "favorite things"...believe me stumbling upon these things took A LOT of trial and error!

In no particular order....

#1 - "Tummy Time" - she love being on her stomach
#2 - The vibrating lamb chair - this was discovered after spending hours simulating the vibrations with my legs. Great leg workout, but really time consuming!
#3 - Katy Perry - she likes to dance to most Katy Perry songs, but is partial to "Firework" and "Teenage Dream". It puts her to sleep immediately, have to see to believe. I am going to try to get some video of this....it is sooo strange! Girl likes to party, what can I say?

Girl likes her groceries

Those of you that know me and Micah well know we enjoy our food. We like going out to eat...that is "liked" going out to eat before we moved to Victoria a.k.a. "the land of chain restaurants". Pickens are slim here, but we find alternatives like cooking at home or going to other friends houses to eat what they have cooked.

Well it seems as if the apple doesn't fall from the tree! We went to the doctor yesterday and Charlotte is a whopping 7lbs and 13oz!!! The pediatrician was definitely taken by surprise, as were we. It shouldn't surprise us the way she puts away the milk!

Her nursery has a few additions in the past few weeks. She has gone from a somewhat feminine nursery to a full on pink explosion. To take a quote from one of my favorite movies..."it looks like the place has been hosed down with pepto bismol"
